On a foggy day we biked to the top of Cadillac Mountain with views of Bar Harbor, Maine. The weather changed by the minute from near zero visibility fog to sun at times. Mt Cadillac is known to be the first place to see the sunrise in winter in the US and is the tallest mountain on the eastern seacoast at 1,530 ft. Though not a very high peak the summit has a subalpine habitat similar to much higher elevations due to the wind exposure mostly from the Atlantic ocean. The rocks are a distinctive pink granite around 500 million years old. This area is home to the Wabanaki people and has been for thousands of years.
