Daisies

ABOUT
A photo collage of a type of daisy flower. The name daisy comes from the old English “daes eag,” or “day’s eye,” because the flowers open at sunrise and close at sunset. Daisies are hardy and present on every continent except Antarctica. A daisy is actually two flowers – the outer petals are “ray” flowers and the center is a cluster of “disc” flowers. Daisies are used to reduce inflammation, soothe coughs, and ease indigestion. The leaves are edible, high in vitamin C, used in salads and can help slow bleeding and soothe back pain. Daisies provide food for pollinators like bees, butterflies, and beetles. Interestingly they can camouflage their lower petals to protect themselves from herbivores at night.
This image is part of the series Anthropocene – the horizontal lines refer to the technology used in TVs where an image is produced line by line. The accentuated blue color is meant to evoke a dreamlike quality complimenting the flowers beauty.
