Apotropaia

Apotropaia

from the series Floracene, 2019, Limited Edition

ABOUT

The primary image is of a Japanese Flowering Cherry tree (Prunus Serrulata) including images of the tree from a side view and another of the petals that have fallen below. There’s also ATCG lettering embedded in the image referencing changing genetic processes. The overall effect is to represent the beauty of nature as it is today including human impacts. Apotropaia is the ancient Greek word for averting evil. It refers to objects, rituals, or symbols designed to ward off evil, danger, or misfortune.
