Immersia (i.e. the state of immersion) is a series of photos of pine needles and leaves immersed in snow. Starting around 2014 I became curious about these fallen cast-offs, how they created a distinctive figure ground with gestural expressive shapes in a transformative state frozen in winter’s silence. The horizontal lines reference scan lines used in electronic communication alluding to how nature, and our relationship to it, is different today than than in the past.
